Easy one today! Where in the World is this?
Where in the World is this?
Check back this evening for the full photo and answer. In the meantime, post your guess, and check out all the photos and stories from this past week.
This one was another easy one! You’ll find the little green aliens inside Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Tomorrowland.
Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin
Space Mountain was introduced to the Magic Kingdom in 1975 and is actually now the oldest operating roller coaster in Florida. The ride kept its original appearance and experience until 2009 when it went under an extensive refurbishment. A lot of work was done to make the interior darker and more mysterious. Work was also done on the rockets, making the seating more padded and comfortable, and the track was completely overhauled using the original layout. While the ride area is darker, the queue area seems to be a bit brighter, making it easier to see as you meander through. Interactive games, similar to those in Soarin’, have also been added to entertain guests waiting in what always seems to be a long line. There are many other little changes throughout the attraction, including the exit. Have you been able to spot them and know their significance?

The Astro Orbiter is an attraction found in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland as well as the other 4 Disney parks around the world. The Walt Disney World version opened in 1974 when Tomorrowland was expanded to add Space Mountain, the Carousel of Progress, and the then named WedWay PeopleMover. At that time the attraction was named Star Jets and was a centerpiece to the land as it soared high above the gound and above the WedWay PeopleMover. The ride looks like a simple Dumbo like attraction, but it is deceiving! The ride vehicle makes 11 rotations in one minute at around 80 feet off the ground. In 1994 the attraction was refurbished and also renamed to the current Astro Orbiter. According the old Tomorrowland Transit Authority recording, “this symbol of universal harmony and interplanetary culture provides all beings with an exhilarating spin around the planet.”

Just a quick post today again in honor of the opening of Toy Story 3 in theaters. Make sure to take a spin on Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin when in Tomorrowland. He needs your help to defeat the evil emperor Zurg. Keep an eye on that large robot in the first room….
Attention Space Rangers!
It took awhile for me to finally get inside Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress and I felt like such a non-Disney fan for being that way. But finally last year I made the time to see what it was all about, and boy am I glad I did. It has now become a “must-do” for us each trip. It’s classic, it’s Walt, it’s true Disney.

I know this quickly became everyone’s least favorite attraction, but it’s still our favorite little alien. This was taken from my lap in the front row. Set all my settings before the show and hoped to catch a decent shot. (Click image for larger version)
