The Astro Orbiter is an attraction found in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland as well as the other 4 Disney parks around the world. The Walt Disney World version opened in 1974 when Tomorrowland was expanded to add Space Mountain, the Carousel of Progress, and the then named WedWay PeopleMover. At that time the attraction was named Star Jets and was a centerpiece to the land as it soared high above the gound and above the WedWay PeopleMover. The ride looks like a simple Dumbo like attraction, but it is deceiving! The ride vehicle makes 11 rotations in one minute at around 80 feet off the ground. In 1994 the attraction was refurbished and also renamed to the current Astro Orbiter. According the old Tomorrowland Transit Authority recording, “this symbol of universal harmony and interplanetary culture provides all beings with an exhilarating spin around the planet.”

Snow White’s Scary Adventures is an attraction the Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland. The attraction opened with the park in October, 1971 but was rededicated and redesigned in 1994. The ride is definitely dark and scary and can be frightening for younger children. Guests are taken through the story of Snow White, seeing her escape to the forest and live with the dwarves, taking the apple from the evil witch, and finally we are able to see a rescued Snow White with her Prince. Be sure to look up and wave to Dopey when your vehicle is nearing the exit!

Since today is Memorial Day I thought we would look at a patriotic attraction. Located in Liberty Square, The Hall of Presidents opened with the rest of the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971. The attraction was based on Walt Disney’s idea of a show called One Nation Under God and since he wanted the Presidents to be more than just wax figures, he worked with Imagineers to create the first Audio-Animatronic, which was of Walt’s hero, Abraham Lincoln.
Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln opened in Disneyland and after Walt’s death it was decided to continue with his idea of the One Nation Under God show which became The Hall of Presidents. Each time a new President is elected they are added to the show with a recorded speech. President Obama was added when the attraction last went under a refurbishment from October 2008 to July 2009. He recorded his Oath of Office speech for the show as well.
