With La Hacienda ready to soft open this week we’d like to thank one of our friends at the World for snapping a few photos for us to share with you today.

The newly refurbished Cantina will now be both counter service and table service. La Cantina de San Angel will open daily at 11am and serve counter service options while the table service option, La Hacienda de San Angel, will open daily at 4pm. La Cantina de San Angel will utilize its own seating area plus some of the air-conditioned La Hacienda seating space (including the terrace) until La Hacienda opens at 4pm. Then La Hacienda will only be available for table service seating. La Cantina de San Angel will remain open, serving counter service selections, until the park closes.

Beginning September 16 ADRs can be made for La Hacienda for October 15th and after. The restaurant is in a soft opening phase until October 15th and will be walk up only.

We will be trying it out for ourself soon so look for another post in the future with a review and food photos.

Disney Hollywood Studios Sci-Fi Dine In

If you’re looking for a restaurant with an original and unique theme, then look no further than the Sci-Fi Dine In Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Sci-Fi Dine In Sign

Sci-Fi Dine In Interior

Located at the end of Commissary Lane, this restaurant plays tribute to the classic drive-in movie theater, and lets you eat a sit down meal at the same time. Even during the daytime, you can dine under the stars inside as you enjoy the series of B Movie clips that play during your meal. Some of these classics include: The Amazing Colossal Man, The Cat Who Hated People, Attack of the 50ft. Woman, and more Sci-Fi classics.

B Movie Trailers Play on the Big Screen

Diners have the option of sitting in one of the “car booths” which are exactly as they sound, a set of booths inside a car. Try for the backseat, that’s where the “hitchhikers” ride, and your carhop will urge the driver to pick up your tab. In the very back of the restaurant are a series of outdoor like tables with little stools. If you want to sit in a car, you can request it when you check in.

Sci-Fi Dine In Seating

The food isn’t always spectacular, but the milkshakes make it worth the trip. Both lunch and dinner are served and lunch offers a few more sandwich selections than dinner.

Club Cool’s Mezzo Mix – Make Your Own?

A couple weeks ago we posted about Club Cool in Epcot’s Future World. Well that created a craving for some of one of our favorites, Mezzo Mix.

Club Cool Tasting Station

Since we’re a good nine hour drive away, we decided to try and create our own Mezzo Mix at home.

Mezzo Mix - Coca Cola and Orange Fanta

Don’t be fooled by the bottle of Mezzo Mix in the photo above. That would be an ebay purchase and who knows how old that bottle is. We see it more as a collectible piece.

Create Your Own?

We started by mixing various versions of Coca-Cola and Orange Fanta and tasting each time, trying to find the closest portions. After quite a few tastings we settled on the following:

5.5 parts Coca-Cola and 1 part Orange Fanta. Try it yourself and see what you think. You may discover a different ratio of Coke vs. Fanta and if so, let me know so we can try it out ourselves!

Where in the World? #18

Where in the World do you find this? Take a guess and check back later for the full photo and some information about the location!

Where in the World is this?

If you looked close at the sign in the background, you saw the phrase “Hakuna Matata” which is a big clue that you’re in the Animal Kingdom! This is part of the Harambe Fruit Market found in Africa in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Harambe Fruit Market

You can stop here for a fresh fruit snack to refuel during your visit to the park. The fruit selection includes apples, bananas, pineapple bites, oranges, and mixed fruit cups. If you’re just not in the healthy mood, you can also pick up a soft pretzel or jalapeno cheese stuffed pretzel. Various types of water and smart water are also available for purchase at this kiosk.

Lilo and Stitch Character Breakfast at ‘Ohana

Breakfast at ‘Ohana has always been a must for us since our first trip on our honeymoon. Since then, the characters have changed a little with the addition of Lilo and Stitch taking the place of Goofy, Chip, and Dale, but the food has remained tasty and bountiful. Other characters include Mickey Mouse himself and Pluto.

'Ohana Restaurant inside the Polynesian Resort

When you arrive at the restaurant, you check in at the podium and then are shuffled over to have your picture taken. During your meal a CM will come by your table and share your photograph along with package options that you can purchase. You are not obligated to have your photo made or purchase them if you do. Also, don’t be afraid to ask the photographer to take one with your personal camera.

Once your breakfast time arrives you are introduced to one of your many cousins (you are in ‘Ohana of course, and ‘Ohana means family!). Your cousin will usher you to your table, along the way picking up a basket of the assorted bread which includes the fantastic pineapple bread as well as a very tasty sticky bun.

Bread Basket

Once seated another cousin comes and introduces themselves as your waiter/waitress for the morning. All food is served family style here at ‘Ohana, beginning with the fruit platter which includes grapes, watermelon, pineapple, and melon.

Fruit Platter

To accompany your food, your meal includes coffee and juice. The juice is “Lilo and Stitch’s Secret Recipe” but I asked the CM just what was in it. It is so refreshing and I think I drink a whole carafe full of it during each visit. While I’m not sure of the portions, the juice is a mixture of Minute Maid Passion Fruit, Orange, and Guava Juices. Unfortunately, it seems that it can be very hard to find everything but the orange juice. However, I did find this on Minute Maid’s website and may be trying to track it down for testing!

Lilo and Stitch's Secret Recipe

The main breakfast platter includes biscuits, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and breakfast potatoes. Feel free to request seconds, or thirds, of any item on the platter.

Breakfast Platter

But wait! There’s more! In the past, Mickey Waffles were served on the platter, but now a CM will come by your table and serve them to you out of a basket. Don’t worry, there’s plenty opportunity to get more Mickey Waffles!

Mickey Waffles

By the end of breakfast, you’re stuffed and ready for whatever park the day throws at you! My suggestion is to eat at ‘Ohana on a Magic Kingdom morning. This way you take Disney Transportation (or a cab) to the Polynesian Resort for breakfast and then you can hop on the monorail for a ride over to the Magic Kingdom when you are finished.

Breakfast is served daily from 7:30am – 11am. Adult’s breakfast is $24.99, child’s breakfast is $13.99.

‘Ohana Breakfast Menu

Hua Paka – Scrambled Eggs

Uala Kahiki – Fried potatoes, caramelized onions, scallions

Pua’a – Pork sausage links and smoked bacon

Mickey Waffles

Assorted Bread – Pineapple bread, Cinnamon sticky bun

Fruit Platter – seasonal

Try Animal Kingdom’s Pizzafari and You Can Have Pizza For Breakfast!

There aren’t many options in the Animal Kingdom if you’re hungry for a quick breakfast but Pizzafari can fit the need and still be tasty! Part of Discovery Island and found as you head towards Africa, Pizzafari maintains the bright, colorful look of Discovery Island.

And for those of you that get up and head out of your resort without even thinking about breakfast, you’re in luck. Pizzafari serves up a breakfast menu until 10:30am.

Serving Breakfast

Service Counter and Kitchen

The menu includes a couple of hearty breakfast dishes as well as some lighter options. But for us, it’s Pizzafari, so we had to have the breakfast pizza! It was different than we expected, light and fluffy dough topped with egg, cheese, as well as red and green peppers, but it was still very tasty, and very filling.

Breakfast Pizza

All around, Pizzafari is a great option for a quick and delicious breakfast. Being counter service allows it to be less expensive and less time-consuming, but you can still sit at one of the many indoor tables and relax in one of the many brightly colored (and themed) rooms. More on that to come in a later post!

Breakfast Menu

Adult Breakfast Platter – scrambled eggs, hash browns, biscuit, choice of bacon or sausage $6.29

Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney

The Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney’s Marketplace is always hopping with people wanting one of the best sandwiches around as well as tasty soups, salads, and sweets.

Earl of Sandwich Exterior

It does seem that this restaurant is always busy with a line that wraps around inside, but the employees have things worked out so well that guests move through the line and have their food in no time. Seating is available both inside and out, and it can be hard to find an empty table, but people aren’t afraid to stalk for a seat. The sandwiches and bread are so good here that I won’t say anymore about it, instead I’ll let the menu and the Sandwich Charter do the talking.
